Mahal or "the palace of winds" is known as the signature
building of Jaipur. Built by Sawai Pratap Singh,
who
was grandson of Sawai Jai Singh and son of Sawai Madhoo Singh in 1799 AD
and Architect of Hawa Mahal was Lal Chand Usta. Architecture of Hawa Mahal Hawa Mahal is a sample of the perfection of the architecture. The Hawa Mahal, part of the Jaipur city palace complex is a familiar landmark, and is ties of pierced windows overlooking the street below. In actual from inside the building is only a series of corridors with windows overlooking the street. Hawa Mahal was built with the pink & red sandstone, beautifully carved and outlined with white border and motif. Carvings and motifs designed on the walls of the Hawa Mahal are proof of the efforts, dedication and skilfulness of the artists of that period Purpose of Hawa Mahal Hawa Mahal was built with some specific purpose in mind. It was built for women in the royal family to view the ceremonial processions on the street while seated behind the small windows. The windows were built in such a way that no one could see the women. Today, Hawa Mahal provides the travelers in Jaipur with some excellent views of the city and a bird's eye view of the Jantar Mantar (a medieval observatory and an important tourist place in Jaipur). The best time to view Hawa Mahal is sunrise when it catches the early morning sun and is bathed in its golden light making it glow like a gem. Strangely, the entrance to Hawa Mahal is from the rear side. So, the next time you travel to Jaipur, do fix up a date with Hawa Mahal. »

Tour « The
Jal Mahal Palace, Jaipur is noted for its intricate architecture. The
Palace in Jaipur was developed as a
pleasure
spot. It was used for the royal duck shooting parties. On the road to
Amber at a distance of 6.5 kms from Jaipur are the cenotaphs of the
royal family. A causeway leads to Jal Mahal Palace situated in the
middle of Man Sagar lake, opposite the cenotaphs. The first four floors
of this building is under water, only the top floor remains outside. One
can have a wonderful view of the lake and the palace from Nahargarh
Fort.Built in 1799, the palace is now abandoned, but reasonably well preserved. In the monsoons, it looks particularly startling with its red sandstone set against the water hyacinth filled lake. »
